Project: New housing development, housing vacancy chains and segregation [concluded]

Peter Ekamper

The objective of the project is to provide better understanding of the effects of housing vacancy chains induced by new housing and new estates on the existing housing stock and existing districts and neighbourhoods; particularly with respect to segregation.

The analysis of housing vacancy chains involves reconstructing housing vacancy chains in six urban districts in the Netherlands using the so-called Social Statistics Database (SSB), a micro-data set of Statistics Netherlands (CBS). Housing vacancy chains are analysed by comparing chain links with respect to type of household, share of non-Western foreigners, household income and type of district. (new estate, poor quarters etc.)

The research is part of a larger project on New housing development and segregation carried out by a research team headed by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) and further consisting of NIDI-KNAW and the Faculty of Geosciences of the University of Utrecht.
