Project: The Comparative Family Policy Database

Anne Gauthier

The objective of this project is to assemble a series of cross-nationally and historically comparable macro-level indicators of family policies.

A first version of this database covering the period 1970 to 1999 for twenty-two OECD countries was developed some years ago by the project leader. With the help of a grant from the Max Planck Institute of Demography, the first part of this database was subsequently updated to cover the period from 1960 to 2008. The second part of the database is focused on maternity and parental leave and was updated in 2011. Both parts use data from various sources including the OECD, the International Labour Office, as well as country-specific sources. The database provides contextual information for researchers doing micro-macro analyses of family-related processes. It is freely available to all researchers through a registration system (see: http://www.demogr.mpg.de/cgi-bin/databases/FamPolDB/index.plx).
