NIDI's research results are published in national and international journals and books. See the overview of publications. The Institute's own publication programme, which is also open to external authors, includes:
DEMOS, bulletin over bevolking en samenleving (Bulletin on Population and Society)
DEMOS, Bulletin on Population and Society, is considered NIDI's most important popular publication and contributes significantly to raising the Institute's identity. The bulletin has ten issues a year and a circulation of over 5,000 copies, and is aimed at a broad, general audience in political, policy and education circles. DEMOS is also available on line. The bulletin occasionally appears in English.

NIDI Reports
The NIDI Reports series is published by the Institute itself. Although the reports
primarily disseminate research findings of NIDI projects, external authors are also invited to contribute to this series. Since NIDI sets great store by an open-access approach to scientific information, the NIDI Reports are also published on line.

European Studies of Population
Together with Flemish Center for Population and Family Studies (CBGS), NIDI initiated the series European Studies of Population (ESPO). The purpose of this series of monographs is to disseminate results of population research with special emphasis on Europe. An international Editorial Board is responsible for this series.

Occasional publications
NIDI also publishes books outside the regular NIDI publication series. See the overview of recently published books.
NIDI issues occasional publications of a specific nature. An example is PopTrain, a software package for secondary education which has been developed by NIDI and Statistics Netherlands and which is widely used, for example, in the geography curricula at Dutch secondary schools. |

NIDI Working Papers
NIDI's publication programme includes working papers. NIDI Working Papers are interim reports on ongoing research projects in the institute and have received only limited review.
Bevolking en Gezin (Population and Family)
Publication of the scientific journal Bevolking en Gezin, first published jointly by NIDI, the Flemish Centre for Population and Family Studies (CBGS) and the Netherlands and Flemish Demographic Societies in 1970, was discontinued at the end of 2004. Attempts to revitalise the ailing Dutch-language journal by attracting new partners and actively trying to increase the number of submitted articles were of no avail. Together with the negative costbenefit ratio and low circulation, these factors prompted the decision to discontinue the journal's publication.

NIDI/CBGS Publications
The NIDI/CBGS Publications, a book series published jointly with the CBGS, is now dormant. Given the available alternatives in its publication programme, NIDI has discontinued its active acquisition aimed at breathing new life into the series. For the time being, the book series will continue to exist for occasional publications at the specific request of the CBGS. |
