Friday 22 March 2013 Kasia Karpińska defended her Ph.D. thesis entiteld 'Prolonged employment of older workers. Determinants of managers’ decisions regarding hiring, retention and training' based on a research project conducted at NIDI and Utrecht University School of Economics.

Ph.D. defence Wieteke Conen


Friday 8 March 2013 Wieteke Conen defended her Ph.D. thesis entiteld 'Older workers: The view of Dutch employers in a European perspective' based on a research project conducted at NIDI.

Population Europe video series


Population Europe launched a video series, "Population Europe Inter-Faces", consisting of video interviews of 20 eminent researchers, including Leo van Wissen, Helga de Valk and Aart Liefbroer from NIDI.

Ellen Dingemans receives Netspar Thesis Award 2012


PhD student Ellen Dingemans has received the Netspar Thesis Award 2012 for her Research Master Thesis entitleld "Bridge employment after early retirement: A bridge to better postretirement well-being of adults?"

Euromapping 2012


Recently the German Foundation for World Population (DSW) and the European Parliamentary Forum (EPF) released their annual Euromapping report. The report documents how European countries are living up to their international funding commitments to support developing countries' population efforts. The report substantially used input and feedback from the UNFPA/NIDI Resource Flows project.

Obituary Jeroen van Ginneken


With sadness we learned of the death of prof.dr. Jeroen K. van Ginneken. Jeroen was affiliated to our institute as Honorary Fellow since his retirement in 2002 after he had worked here as a senior researcher. Jeroen was also professor of demography at the School of Health Systems and Public Health (SHSPH) of the University of Pretoria, South Africa. NIDI loses in Jeroen a committed scientist, an esteemed colleague and a warm person.

European Research Council - Advanced Grant


NIDI researcher and head of the Social Demography department prof.dr. Aat Liefbroer has received an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council for research on cross-national variation in the links between childhood disadvantage, young adult demographic behaviour and later-life outcomes.

New Resource Flows website


The new UNFPA/NIDI Resource Flows project website is available: www.resourceflows.org. The Resource Flowsproject collects data on international population assistance and domestic expenditures for population activities in developing countries. The Resource Flows project is a joint collaboration between The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and NIDI.

ESFR Young Scientist Prize


NIDI researcher Eva-Maria Merz has won the European Society of Family Research (ESFR) Young Scientist Prize with her article "The attitude towards childlessness in Europe: Cultural and institutional explanations".
