Project: PopTrain Europe
Mathieu Starink, Joop de Beer, Peter Ekamper, Rob van der Erf
In 1995 NIDI developed the computerprogram PopTrain in order to provide a better insight into the state of the population, now and in the future. The program, which was available in English and Dutch and focused entirely on the population in the Netherlands, shed light on the process of population change and on the causes and effects of this process. It also addressed the most important demographic measures, figures and definitions. PopTrain was often used as a teaching aid at secondary schools and universities and colleges.
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary in 2010, NIDI has now developed an online English and Dutch version of PopTrain for Europe. PopTrain Europe can be accessed on www.poptrain.eu and www.poptrain.nl.
